This month we are featuring one of the top girls basketball players in our state from W.F. West High School, Nike McClure. She will play basketball at Washington State University next season.
What are your teams and personal goals this season?
My team and I have a very specific goal this season. That goal is to get to the state championship game, without any injuries, and to bring home some hardware. Personally, my goal is the exact same, because as a team if all of our eyes are not on the same goal we will never achieve it. So we have to lay aside any personal goals on the court so that our side of the scoreboard will hopefully always be the winning side.
What are the biggest highlights of your season and your statistics?
My biggest highlight of our season was how much we’ve grown as a team. Many people would assume that it was when we beat Mark Morris for the District Championship, but it was not. We could not have beaten them without the relationships we established with one another. Yes, I will look back on my career and remember that District Championship, but most of all I will remember the ladies who fought on that court beside me to get it.
What are you looking forward to in your future in basketball?
Basketball has clothed me, fed me, and housed me. Basketball is paying for my college education, and has made me numerous amount of new friendships. So as I ponder over my future all I see are open doors and opportunities ready to be taken. Hopefully, one of these doors will take me to the WNBA so I can play with my idol Brittney Griner, or lead my college team to an NCAA Championship. All of which I would be extremely grateful for.
Any other thoughts or comments she would like to share?
I would just like to share a quote.
“Wins and losses come a dime in a dozen, but effort? Nobody can judge that. Because effort is between YOU and YOU.”- Ray Lewis
