WSGBCA Statement
The WSGBCA is a diverse community of coaches and athletes that is committed to work towards the goal of ending racism, prejudice or bias, either individually or systemically. As an organization, we commit to work towards that goal and to hold those accountable who do not.The recent killing of George Floyd and the history of violence, discrimination and racism makes it evident that we need to work harder as individuals and institutions to take action in support of our black coaches and student-athletes. We have seen some growth in our country and sport and will continue to pursue opportunities to help make the experiences of all of our coaches and athletes enjoyable and safe. Raising awareness is important, but even more so, demonstrated action which testifies to the dignity of ALL people and confirms the opportunities for safety, security and prosperity that all should share is necessary. Sports have long been both a testing ground and platform to lead the way when change is needed and we will continue to work towards that goal. We will continue to provide opportunities for our coaches and student athletes to have healthy and productive opportunities and conversations that involve action and advocacy.
